When you might need key fob replacement

- Buttons no longer respond after a battery change

Replace the whole fob or just the case?
If the buttons and electronics still work but the case is cracked, a car key shell replacement is usually the cheaper option. If the fob is lost, dead after a battery change, or soaked from the pool or beach, it needs replacing.
Fob vs. smart key
A fob usually has buttons plus a separate or flip-out blade. A smart key lets you start the car with a button and no key in the ignition. That's covered under smart key programming.
